Whatchamacallit? … Zombie names

by Grivante

Who remembers that candy bar from the 80’s? I used to love them, though this post actually has nothing to do with them, it has to do with what we call our favorite dead monsters!

One of the most challenging things as an author of zombie fiction is coming up with new things to call them, because using the word “zombie” in sentence after sentence is not only boring for the reader, it is also boring for the writer.

So, what are some of the other names you can use? Here’s all the ones I know, plus those I found that others have come up with. These are listed in no particular order. See any that are missing? Make sure and comment  to let us know or just tell us which is your favorite.

Names for Zombies

Zombs(or Zoms)

The Dead, Undead, Living Dead, Walking Dead, Evil Dead, Etc…Dead.

Rotters

Deadites

Zeds

Flesh Bags

Biters

Geeks

Souless

Lamebrains

Walkers

Walking or Hungry Corpses

Crawlers or Ankle Biters

Shamblers

Animated Corpses

Ghouls

Meat Puppets

My favorite from the above has to be Rotters or Meat Puppets.

And for a bonus round, what do you call a group of zombies?

Horde

Legion

Mob

Bunch

Plague

I don’t have much for that one, how about you?

I hope you enjoyed this little game of Whatchamacallit and I look forward to seeing what cool names for the dead I might’ve missed.
