The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.
You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.
I read The Green Mile when it was released as the small serialized books. I can’t remember how many there were. I want to say five. (No, it was six.) I’ve long since lost those small book versions of the story.
I remember looking forward to the next section of the story to be released. They couldn’t have been that expensive compared to a full-length novel because I don’t remember shelling out a lot of cash, but back then I was using credit cards like a bottomless pit, so who knows?
A lot of details from that story have stuck in my head. The characters seemed so well defined and particular. The action and mysteries involved were interesting. Many things fascinated me about this one.
The more I think about it, there is an argument for this being one King’s top five best books. If you had asked me to make a list of his top ten books before now, I probably would have forgotten this one entirely.
I look forward to visiting this book again.
My next post in this series will be After The Green Mile which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
