Before The Colorado Kid #StephenKingRevisited

by Jay Wilburn

The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.

You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.

The Colorado Kid and The Eyes of the Dragon were the toughest books for me to find physical copies for this reading effort. Someone had to track them down in used bookstores for me. They have since become easily available on Amazon again. Of course, they have.

This book, Joyland, and the most recent release as of the time I’m writing this, Later, were crime fiction works King put out with Hard Case Crime. I didn’t realize how deeply crime fiction weaved into his storytelling until I was reading through his works in order like this.

I’m very curious to check this one out to see if King stuck with a straight crime fiction narrative or if he added in the supernatural as he tends to do. This is a fresh new story for me and I’m excited to get started.

It feels weird to hold a book this small from Stephen King. It’s like something is missing.

My next post in this series will be After The Colorado Kidd which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
