The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.
You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.
I have avoided From a Buick 8 up until now on purpose. The instant I saw it I thought this was just going to be a rehash of Christine. I don’t know what to expect at all, but this is the preconceived notion I’ve carried around in my head. I like the book Christine, but I just felt like King has already explored that territory. Honestly though, I have no idea what I’m getting into.
I’ve done this with a few books including Danse Macabre, The Talisman, and others. I got an idea in my head of what they were about and why I wasn’t interested. I missed out as a result. Now, I am glad I visited those books finally.
In some cases, going in with a low bar or no real idea of what the work was about has raised my experience with the book. Some of King’s treasures have been found in these books that have stayed below my radar all these years.
I am looking forward to finally reading this novel. As usual, I expect to be surprised and King rarely lets me down on that count.
My next post in this series will be After From A Buick 8 which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
