Before Duma Key #StephenKingRevisited

by Jay Wilburn

The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.

You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.

Duma Key is another Stephen King novel I missed until now.

King used one of the Keys for a vacation for his main character in Bag of Bones. I know in Just After Sunset, the short story collection after this novel, that many of the stories were set in Florida where King was spending more time in that phase of his life.

This story involves a man recovering from a terrible injury and mental trauma for which I imagine King may be drawing on his own experiences at this point. The story also uses painting as portals which harkens back to Rose Madder.

I’m curious to see how this novel plays out.

My next post in this series will be After Duma Key which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
