Before Black House #StephenKingRevisited

by Jay Wilburn

The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.

You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.

I was really resistant to Stephen King’s collaborative work for many years. I didn’t pick up The Talisman until I started this process of reading all his books in order. Having read The Talisman and getting ready to begin Black House for the first time, I’m interested to see what King and Straub did revisiting these worlds they created.

I thought there were flaws in The Talisman. It had great moments and powerful imagery, but I also feel the authors were searching for the story a little and tried their best to pull it together in the editing process.

I’m curious if all this time later, coming back together for the sequel, is different. Maybe they have changed as authors and they are reentering a world they already know and understand. I’m excited to see how that might change the story.

My next post in this series will be After Black House which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
