Before Rose Madder #StephenKingRevisited

by Jay Wilburn

The plan is to reread all of Stephen King’s works in the order that they were published. Richard Chizmar of Cemetery Dance had the vision. I’m doing it because I am a writer and I want to improve my fiction. And I love Stephen King’s stories. I think there is something to be learned through this process.

You can also go back to the beginning and read Before Carrie or any of my other posts up through this one and beyond by checking out this link to the Master List of all my #StephenKingRevisited posts.

I have not read Rose Madder. This is a novel that was below my radar and has remained there a long time for some reason.

I am excited to read it. It is kind of nice to run across the books I have missed since I started this adventure with #StephenKingRevisited. In many ways, that’s a big part of doing this at all.

I’m aware that this is a “sleeping with the enemy” sort of story with a woman on the run. The fact that it is a rogue cop who is her deadly husband may be timely with our modern troubles, but of course, that is an old and familiar problem, too.

I have no idea where she ends up or how the story ends. There’s an implication that where she flees to may be just as deadly or more so than the person she is running from. I’m fascinated to see how this story plays out.

It’s time to right a wrong and visit Rose Madder.

My next post in this series will be After Rose Madder which will be linked on the Master List of all my Stephen King Revisited posts.
