I actually was going to skip this post, but Kevin Bufton posted his, so I figured, what could it hurt … unless my opinion is held in such low regard that my endorsement actually harms their sales. I do not think I am that important, so this should have no measurable effect. Some of these are due for reviews that I still need to write and recommendations for Bram Stoker Awards that I should have already made. I need to pay my HWA dues too. This post is stressing me out and I’m all ready in bad health. I’m just going to get to it then. Click the links to check them out.
Best Novels: Losing Touch by Chris Larsen, Clean Freak by Sean Davis, and Cruel by Eli Wilde.
Best Anthology: Mistresses of the Macabre
Best Collections: They Might Be Demons by Max Booth III, The Crossroads by K Trap Jones, and (I’m not certain this fits the category technically, but …) Virtuoso at Masterbation and More McHumorous Musings by Jessica McHugh.
Best Short Story: “Flowers Blooming in the Summer of Atrophy” by Max Booth III
Best Artists: (I was going to do “best covers” but I’ve been more impressed with bodies of work than any single cover although all three of these artists have done great ones for many books) Matthew Revert, Luke Spooner, and George Cotronis

The Self serving section:
I’ve been involved in a number of projects of which I am quite proud. Others did great work that helped make them great, so I don’t want to leave them out as punishment for having the misfortune of working with me. So, if you will indulge me …
Best Presses: I can’t be more happy with the hard work of Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing and Hazardous Press. There are many great, small, growing presses, but I’m pointing out these two this year.
Also …
Best Horror of the Year volume 5
All the anthologies that have accepted my work have been a point of pride, but I really like the work of others represented in these pieces and think they warrent a mention despite my involvement.
Have a great 2014 and thank you for reading!
